Cleaning and Storing Your Figure Suit
                                                                                 By Wendy Page

Anyone who has competed before knows that the suit you started out with – all vibrant and bright – isn’t the suit you end up with at the end of the day. It’s dulled up with tanner, glue and shine spray.

You definitely don’t want all the money you spent on your suit to be wasted so it’s time to take care of that suit properly so you can wear it for your next shows.
Cleaning your velvet suit

1) Buy a gentle detergent, such as Tide or Oxyclean. Fill your
bathtub with lukewarm water and add the detergent. Put your
suit in and gently swirl it around. Leave your suit to soak in the
water then for a few hours.

2) When you return to your suit, check it for spots that have excess
tanner or glue. Then simply use a toothbrush and apply the
detergent right to the spot, gently rubbing the area.

3) Drain the tub of the dirty water and fill it again with lukewarm
water. Swish the suit around until all the suds are gone. You may
need to empty and fill the tub a few times for this to happen.
When the suit has been sufficiently rinsed, gently ring it out and
place it flat on a drying rack to dry. After the excess water has
dried from it, you may drape it over a hanger to finish drying.
Storing your suit

To store your suit, simply wrap it in bubble wrap and place it in a plastic bag. Please make sure that before you put it away, it is completely dry. And that’s all there is to it. Next time you need your suit, it will be clean and ready to wear.

Pretty much, rule of thumb is that your suits are not machine washable. The heat and tumbling
in the washer may unfasten
the glue that holds your stones
on and you’ll lose them.

If your suit is frost or hologram (like the suit pictured below)
DON'T SOAK IT!
When cleaning these types of suits only clean the dirty spots on the inside of the suit. Soaking the suit will cause the color on the dots to change to silver
